Tencent shareholder Naspers plans to increase its stake in Swiggy, India's online food distribution company, as the start-up company is planning a third round of financing this year, Bloomberg said in the afternoon of October 24, Beijing time.

The most valuable company in Africa has disclosed its intention to support Swiggy's latest round of financing, which could be as much as $600 million, the person familiar with the matter said, making Swiggy the largest ever. Anonymous insiders also said the company had an opportunity to buy shares from other investors, such as Bessemer Venture Partners.

One of them also revealed that Tencent is also planning to participate in this round of financing. Naspers holds 31% of Tencent.

Naspers declined to comment. Swiggy, Tencent and Bessemer did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

After Naspers's first two rounds of financing, Swiggy's valuation has risen to $2 billion. Naspers has also become the largest shareholder of the company. As of March, Nasper had a 22% stake in Swiggy. But there are still informed sources that the company has yet to make a final decision on whether to participate in the new round of financing.

In order to replicate the huge success of investing in Tencent earlier, Naspers regards India as an investment target. Earlier this year, the company made a profit of $1.6 billion by selling 11% of its stake in Flipkart, an Indian e-commerce startup. At the same time, Naspers also owns a share of MakeMyTrip, a tourism company, and OLX, a classified business company.

Naspers has long favored investing in food delivery companies, with German Delivery Hero and Brazilian iFood among its assets. The company also plans to invest in Hungerbox, another food company in India.
